Happy New Year

The last day of 2015 has arrived, so before the clock strikes midnight, I wanted to wish you all a very happy new year.

I’m very excited about 2016. One of my main resolutions is to make my book blog a priority, with regular updates, reviews and a bit of life writing thrown in.

Looking back on 2015, it’s fair to say it has been a very sad and busy year for me. The death of my grandparents and great aunt cast a dark cloud over much of the year, but there have still been lots of positives. My MA in creative writing is going very well. Completing the course has been an ambition for many years, which makes it all the more enjoyable. So far, I’ve completed modules in novel, contemporary literature and life writing. I also passed an Open University module – The Arts Past and Present – with distinction. Running-wise, I won a few county medals, boxes of chocolates, and wine. I also took the brave step of becoming a full-time freelance writer and copywriter. I’m pleased to say that things are going well. And last but not least, after almost ten years together, Chris and I finally got engaged.

In my reading, life writing, memoir and creative nonfiction has dominated. I’ve also started a university module on the nineteenth century novel, which involves some heavy reading. In 2016 I will have no choice but to spend long days reading. That’s the plan anyway.

I hope to make the coming year a good one for reading and writing. Since I was young, all I have ever wanted to do is become a writer of fiction. Starting the MA at Sheffield Hallam University was the first step in taking my writing seriously. Next year, writing has to be my priority. I have to step it up. I’ve already signed up to a short story course with Comma Press, booked some courses with novelist Susan Elliot Wright, and, of course, I will be starting on the tutor development stage of my MA, which involves producing a full-length novel. I hope that if I throw myself at the wall of opportunity, something (fingers crossed) will stick. I intend to use my blog as a motivator, so will be updating on my progress.

In the world of blogging, I’m looking forward to reading more of your blogs, meeting new bloggers, and attending some events.

I hope you have a wonderful 2016 and achieve all your reading and writing ambitions. Happy New Year!
